An Uyghur Man @ TBI @ Lund

I was raised in Kashgar, an important oasis city in the northwest border of China. Once upon the time, Kashgar connected the west and the east with the ancient silk road, so that it was a melting point of different cultures. With this special historical heritage, our people known as Uyghur, cherishes the life with a warm and hospitable culture. I spent my entire childhood in my homeland and often dreamed of realising a big dream in the big big new world outside. :-)

When I was 19, I left my homeland for my college education. I travelled a journey 5300km far and 100 hours long to a far far away city. I spent 4 years of my life in this city, Shanghai. In the end, I got my bachelor degree in Pharmaceutics, and with a great "expectation and confusion" for the future, I decided to take another long journey. :-|

I spent one and half year of my life in Pune, a city famous for its education in India. Over there, I started to get experience with operating system Linux, and the programming language Java and C++. I miss India. :-)

In Gothenburg of Sweden, I spent another one and half year of my life and gained more computing knowledge. With a satisfaction, I got my master degree in bioinformatics, and I was glad to make my master thesis in R&D center of AstraZeneca. Over there, I started to learn to program with Python, a dynamic object-oriented language, which I still enjoy in my project and daily work. :-)

I came to Vienna and started the work for my PhD in bioinformatics under the supervision of Ivo Hofacker, who architects the Vienna RNA package, that is one of major tools worldwide in the field of RNA secondary structure prediction. In Vienna, I developed a tool called Bcheck for predicting RNase P RNA gene. :-)

Now I am in the university of Lund researching on the role of miRNA in cancer development under the supervision of Carlos Rovira.
